For anyone looking for a stay in County Kerry, Ireland, the Gleann Fia Country House is unmatched. Located about 1.2 miles from the city center, this 3 floor country mansion is a great location if you are looking to escape for a few days in some of the most beautiful countryside that Ireland has to offer.

The Glean Fia Country House is run by Conor and Brigit O'Connell. The spacious rooms with bathrooms en suite are a welcoming atmosphere for any traveler, whether one looking to use this as a base point for your stay in the County, or a weekend country getaway. The establishment has private grounds and gardens. For any nature lovers or photographers, a walk along the river that runs through the grounds, as well as through the gardens and grounds, is a great way to spend a few hours.

For those looking to stay here, the Country House is operational year round though off season is October to March. Single room rates fall at about $60 US dollars a night and include breakfast.

An Escape to the Irish Country Side

Waking up to the sounds of the birds chirping and the river flowing, even in January, will have any visitor rejuvenated. Breakfast is served from 8 am to 9:30 am in the dining area down stairs, where one can enjoy a view of the gardens from the closed in porch. Breakfast includes an assortment of fresh fruits, yogurt, farm fresh cheeses and cold cereals daily, and then a hot breakfast made to order. Choices include fresh eggs, ham, sausage and toast, served with your choice of coffee or tea.

If an evening night cap is something you have in mind, the sitting area off of the living room is an invite. Here, guests can relax after a day of activities and have a cup of coffee or tea, free of charge, or even an alcoholic drink, which is operated on the 'honor system;' if one drinks something, they are requested to write it down and it will be added to your bill upon check out, which is 11 am.

Things to do in County Kerry

While an escape to the Irish countryside is inviting, there is much to do in surrounding the area of the Gleann Fia Country House for those looking to see more of Killarney. Located in the heart of the Ring of Kerry, one of the most picturesque drives of all of Ireland, one can make this 4 hour journey through the mountains and enjoy the beauty of the Emerald Isle. If you are renting a car, then this drive is self guided with the help of a map and ample signage along the roads. If you would prefer to leave the drive to someone else, Gleann Fia will arrange a pickup for you through a local touring company which picks you up right at the front door of the country house. The total cost is about $30 US dollars and the tour is just over 4 hours.

Another option is Muckross House and Muckross Lake, an estate about 5 miles down the road which at one point was a visitors lodge to Queen Victoria for her 48 hour stay in Killarney. Close by is also Ross' Castle, ruins of an site with a breathtaking view of the ocean as well as some of the plushest greenery one will ever lay their eyes on.

Some of the most scenic countryside of Ireland can be found in Killarney. For anyone taking a trip to County Kerry, the Gleann Fia Country House is a wonderful place to stay. Serving as an escape from the city while located close to some of the most popular sites of the area such as the Ring of Kerry, this bed and breakfast is certain to please anyone who stays.
