A quick look at some of the finest vegan options available in a few of the most popular cities in Ireland.

Finding vegan-friendly food when you're on the go (and without a kitchen) in a new and different country can sometimes be a tough go, but the world of options out there is an ever-expanding one. And despite Ireland's evident love for dairy, there are countless places to dine animal-free - even where you may least expect it.

Dublin

When dining in Dublin, Ireland's largest city, the most difficult decision you will have to make is which of the multiple vegetarian/vegan restaurants you would like to try.

Cornucopia - popular for its inventive soups and salads, Cornucopia caters to both vegetarians and vegans. And although the latter has a more limited menu, the visit is worth it if you choose to partake in the vegan chocolate tofu cake.

Govinda's - offering cheap and sizeable portions, this Hare Krishna owned restaurant has quite a few options and an incredibly friendly staff. They serve lovely dhal and samosas, and offer vegan carrot cake every Friday.

Fresh - formerly known as Blazing Salads, Fresh has a wide selection of vegan soups and salads. The food, which is lunch-oriented, is available for eat-in or take-away, and there is more than one vegan dessert available at any given time.

Cork

Despite its much smaller size, Cork City has some of the most delicious vegan food in the country - most of it housed within one riverside establishment.

Quay Co-Op - a health food store with built in café, Quay Co-Op is the only stop any vegan need make in the county. You can purchase your own snacks, and have lunch in the same visit. Everything at the café is vegan, even some hard-to-find options like potato salad, pie, and even cheesecake. The portions are large and the food is very affordable. Once you eat here, you will not want to eat anywhere else!

Café Paradiso - a Mediterranean-style restaurant, Café Paradiso has a much more limited vegan menu, but make up for their short comings with friendly staff and a careful chef. It is advised that you call ahead of time for a vegan meal, but they usually have options. Be warned that unfortunately, Café Paradiso is a bit more expensive than others.

Limerick

There is no room to be picky in Limerick, as both vegetarian and vegan restaurants are hard to come by. One of the only options available in Limerick City, however, is still worth a visit.

The Grove - one thing any vegan visiting this health food shop and café can count on is a delicious and hearty salad. The menu is not set from day to day, but you can usually count on a vegan curry option as well. The Grove has a friendly staff and large portions.

If you're wandering to other cities, travel guides such as Lonely Planet are often more than helpful at locating vegetarian and vegan-friendly restaurants, and will also inform you ahead of time as to costs and hours of operation.
